Archimede screw

This machine for lifting water certainly cannot be considered an innovation.
It seems that it was known as a far back as ancient Egyptian times and war later studied in the Greek world by Archimedes.
In the Renaissance all engineers were familiar with it and put it to use on a regular basis.
Leonardo drew a great and varied number of them, often adding ingenious improvements.
