From Kawaguchiko, you can find an old style bus to drive you to Saiko lake. Here are few houses and no restaurants. I suggest you to bring your own food and drink. You can go in the forest, and walk on the floor which is cold lava from Fuji-sama.

Kawaguchiko
If you stay in Tokyo, you have to meet Fuji-sama. I chose the town of Kawaguchiko. It's located at north of Fuji-sama, close to a big lake. There are many lavender plantations, and then, many lavender products as ice-cream, soaps, etc...
You can take the cable car to up on the hills and have Fuji-sama face to you .
To go to Kawaguchiko : go to the Shinjuku station, and find the Keio line bus company. You can book your bus ticket and find the bus face to the Yodobashi shop. After 2 hours, you will arrive at Kawaguchico. Then you can find an information desk at the bus station to ask how to go to your hotel.
