Public transport was crippled after the fighting in December 1941 as most conveyances had been destroyed or damaged, or commandeered by the Japanese.
Buses, trams, cable cars and ferries returned to service in 1942, and trains in 1943.
But since there was a desperate shortage of fuel during the Occupation, people resorted to bicycles, tricycles and rickshaws as the main means of transport.
They even turned to horse-drawn carts, which carried passengers between Tsim Sha Tsui, Hung Hom and Kowloon Tong.
